Chifeng Gold’s Lane Xang Minerals Limited (LXML) operates the Sepon Gold and Copper Operation, located in Vilabouly District, Savannakhet Province, Lao PDR. Since the commencement of operations in 2003, Sepon has produced almost one million tonnes of Copper and over 1.2 million ounces of Gold.


Chifeng LXML is now positioning itself for future growth.  With the re-commencement of gold production at Sepon in 2020, and with a number of other feasibility studies, a ramp up in exploration and with M&A activity underway, the future for Chifeng LXML and the Sepon operation is unlimited in potential and opportunity.


Chifeng LXML are looking for a new Technical Services Managerto join their leadership team, to support the future growth plans, and be a part of this exciting future.


Reporting to the General Manager, this role will be responsible for Chifeng LXML’s whole of business planning processes from Life of Mine to Monthly plans, and will manage the technical aspects of resource development, mine geology, mine design, mine planning and grade control to ensure ore body value is maximised.


Key Responsibilities


• Provide overall Leadership and Management of Chifeng LXML’s Technical Services department, including the following functions

• Develop and implement processes to support whole of business integrated planning, including life of mine plans, 3 year plans, annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and monthly production plans

• Annual reporting of JORC compliant Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves

• Provide a high level of technical expertise and support to the exploration, mining, processing, and environmental departments

• Support business development activitiesthrough provision of technical evaluations and reviews

• Continually seek to optimise the operating plans, and support business improvement strategies and processes by identifying opportunities, and providing processes for monitoring and analysing performance measures

• Support Mine Closure planning

• Ensure compliance with all statutory and legal obligations

• Coach, mentor and develop the technical services team, with particular focus on the development of Lao National employees

Required Qualifications and Experience


• At least 15 to 20 years’ experience in the Mining Industry, with demonstrated experience in large scale gold or base metal operations, and exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in developing countries

• At least 5 to 10 years’ experience in a Technical Management role (Technical Services Manager, Integrated Planning Manager, Mine Planning Manager), with demonstrated experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams, and exposure to managing multinational teams

• Strong technical background with tertiary qualifications in Mining, Geotechnical, Geology, or related discipline.

• Post graduate qualifications Business or Mineral Economics will be an advantage

• Previous experience working in an expatriate role – preferably in South East Asia

• Demonstrated experience in providing leadership, coaching, mentoring and development of direct reports and high potential employees

This expatriate assignment is a 2 year contract residentially based in the Lao capital city of Vientiane on a 5/2 4/3 roster to site.  Alternatively, a longer FIFO roster from your home country can be agreed for the right candidate. An attractive expatriate package is on offer, commensurate with your experience and the market rates.  For residential assignments, additional benefits, including full relocation and repatriation assistance are provided.
